This one-of-a-kind class at Artsake offers specialized instruction to students interested in expanding their knowledge of and skills in oil painting. Unlike most of Artsakes classes where a single skill-level is the focus, this class provides students with the ability to move at their own pace, making use of a curriculum and corresponding materials catered to individual needs and progress.

Beginners: This class is for anyone and everyone who has always wanted to learn to paint with oils.

Intermediates: Has painted with oils but wants to build their knowledge.

Advanced: Paints with oils but wants to expand to work with the materials and techniques of the old masters or contemporary masters.

In a classroom that combines beginners, intermediate and advanced students, Jim Myrick will work one on one with each student in his favorite medium, oil paint. This is a unique opportunity to have individual attention from an instructor, while at the same time getting practical knowledge and advise from peers in the subject and medium.

Beginning students will learn about the basics of oil painting including surfaces, techniques, brushes, blending, color theory and mixing, proper care and use of the materials.

Intermediate and advanced students will hone their skills in layering, blending, using color and tones for intricate light and shadow techniques to name a few.

Everyone will learn about composition, scale and perspective.

This is a truly unique opportunity to work in a very open studio atmosphere with direct and targeted instruction.
